T.K. Vaidya sala

Year of Establishment: 1953
Founder: T.K. Sooppi kutty Kurikkal

TK Vaidya Sala was the only basic treatment facility accessible to the common public of Thuvvakkad, Medippara, Pothannur, Allur, Kuttur, Pullur, Paravannur and Parakkal villages until other medical institutions came into existence in the surroundings in the 1990s.

Apart from functioning as a treatment centre, it was a mediating centre for solving problems among the natives and a library providing access to knowledge and information through news dailies and periodicals.

To the great relief to the poor, Sooppikkutty Kurikkal was very keen to ensure that no one was deprived of basic medical treatment due to lack of money. Also, his successors maintained the same philanthropic stance. No visitor to the village market skipped a visit to the Vaidya Sala. Even the police chose the place as a punching station for vehicles and kept the punching record therein.

Steps towards Innovation

After decades of functioning in the Adhikari's building in the centre of Thuvvakkad village market, in 2004 the clinic was relocated to a new building across the road in quest of more and better space and convenience.

As a bigger step, a new offshoot named ‘TK Vaidya Sala Ayurvedic & Physiotherapy Centre’ started functioning on 10 September 2021 in a separate building nearby.
